The Militant Labor Forum presents
  From Alabama to Arizona:
  Labor Resists the Capitalists’ Profit Drive

  Friday, May 4 Dinner 6:30 pm Ë Program 7:30 pm
Militant Labor Forum Hall, 13 Bennington St., 2nd
floor, East Boston      While Wall Street brokers and
their clients celebrate the Dow Jones average’s
surpassing the 13,000 mark, those upon whose labor
rests the entire shaky edifice of the US financial
market are preparing to sound a different note.
  Working people – native and foreign born – have
borne the burden of the economic measures employed by
big business to fuel their profit boom: massive
layoffs and plant closings in industry after industry;
brutal speedup and reduction in safety standards
across the board; cuts in wages, pensions and health
care benefits formerly guaranteed by union contracts;
and the attempted creation of a permanent layer of
workers without rights, undocumented immigrants, whom
they hope to subject to super exploitation with
impunity.
  But working people across the country are mounting
resistance to this offensive and turning more and more
to their defensive organizations, the industrial trade
unions, to do this.
  Come hear a first hand report on developments in the
western coal fields and discuss the significance of
labor resistance there and elsewhere for working
people throughout the US at this week’s Militant Labor
Forum.
