Peace Activists to Presidential Candidates: Out Now!
On Sunday, June 3, 2007, peace activists from around New England will be
gathering at the St. Anselm's College (Manchester, NH)* to challenge all
presidential candidates to call for an immediate end to the Iraq war and
occupation at a major debate co-sponsored by CNN. With many other
organizations, the Greater Boston Stop the Wars Coalition is taking
advantage of the media visibility and networking opportunities to build a
stronger peace movement. The coalition's Brian O'Connell points out that
"the candidates have an important opportunity to distinguish themselves from
Congressional colleagues who have simply capitulated to the Whitehouse's war
agenda. We need to be at St. Anselm's to voice our outrage and to convert
this sentiment into stronger actions!"
Amy Antonucci, coordinator of Seacoast Peace Response in NH, adds, "New
Hampshire's peace community has reshaped the state's political atmosphere as
evidenced by our 2004 election results. The presidential debates are an
opportunity to do this on a national scale with the help of activists from
all over New England."
