The Militant Labor Forum presents:

The Fraud of Massachusetts’ Healthcare Reform:  Why
Working People Must Lead a Fight for Free, Lifetime
Healthcare for All

Saturday, July 14: Dinner 6:30pm b Program 7:30pm
Speaker: John Hawkins, Socialist Workers Party

While Democratic and Republican party presidential
hopefuls roll out their schemes for healthcare reform,
increasing numbers of working people throughout the US
(not to mention the world) live the daily reality of
extreme insecurity when it comes to medical care. For
the vast majority healthcare is a privilege, not a
right.
Big business dailies across the country are touting
the Healthcare Reform Act passed by the Massachusetts
state legislature in 2006 as an example of how to meet
working peoples’ demand for affordable healthcare.
But instead of establishing a healthcare system that
guaranteed medical care for all, the Massachusetts
state legislature passed a law forcing every adult
resident to purchase health insurance through their
employers. Often the rates workers must pay for this
insurance are exorbitant – making the entire setup a
gigantic gift to the insurance monopoly.
Not only does the plan add insult to injury by
levying stiff fines against all those who do not
purchase health insurance by a July 1, 2007 (with a
several month grace period), it also sets as a goal
the elimination of any and all free medical care.
Come discuss how working people can lead a fight
for, and win free, lifetime healthcare for all.
