The Militant Labor Forum presents: Behind the new immigration regulations: Ruling class drive to dampen movement and weaken unions
Friday, August 24
Dinner 6:30 pm, Program 7:30 pm
Speaker: Betsy Farley, SWP candidate for Boston City Council District 1
Working people should oppose the new immigration regulations announced by President George W. Bush August 10. Among the measures announced in the plan he made public -- Fact Sheet: Improving Border Security and Immigration Within Existing Law -- are:
¨ Beefing up the border patrol to 18,300 agents;
¨ 670 miles of fences and barriers along the U.S. border with Mexico;
¨ The training of hundreds of local cops to perform the functions of la migra;
¨ And most menacingly, eight measures aimed at what the Fact Sheet calls Worksite Enforcement, centering on enforcement of laws prohibiting companies from employing undocumented workers. Already employers have begun using the new regulations to go after union members and activists and workers who have accumulated seniority.
Come discuss at this weeks Militant Labor Forum why working people must oppose these new regulations and demand instead permanent residency for all undocumented immigrants now, with no strings attached, and an end to immigration raids and deportations.
