THE COMMUNITY CHURCH OF BOSTON
SUNDAY SPEAKERS FORUM presents...

Sunday, September 23, 2007 at 11:00am

The Middle East - week two
MERRIE NAJIMY of the AMERICAN-ARAB ANTI-DISCRIMINATION COMMITTEE
"Combatting Defamation & Negative Stereotyping in the Media and Elsewhere"

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), founded in 1980, is
the largest grassroots Arab-American organization in the U.S. It prides
itself on being non-sectarian and non-partisan, welcoming people of all
backgrounds, faiths & ethnicities as members. ADC is committed to empowering
Arab-Americans; defending the civil rights of all those of Arab heritage in
the U.S.; promoting a more balanced foreign policy in the Middle East; and
supporting freedom & development in the Arab World.

The Massachusetts chapter of ADC, located at Community Church, encourages
Arab-Americans proudly to embrace their identities and advocates for their
civil rights in this state. It works toward these objectives through
counseling and selective litigation; educating the general population on
Arab culture & issues; and building the Arab-American community itself.

MA chapter president is Merrie Najimy, a founder of the Boston Committee for
Palestinian Rights and an ADC National Board member. A second-generation
Arab American, she teaches elementary school in Concord. As such, she
devotes much of her time to creating an active anti-bias curriculum that she
uses with her students and to train other teachers.
