*Guest Speaker, *V. Sandhya, *President of the Progressive Organization 
of Women (POW) in Andhra Pradesh, India where she has worked for 25 
years. POW has been fighting for women's liberation through social 
struggles that aim to eliminate all forms of oppression, including 
gender and class oppression. It has fought for livelihood, healthcare, 
and education with the aim of gaining economic, political and social 
rights for women. Sandhya actively organizes the women beedi and jute 
workers. She also works with auto-rickshaw drivers union in Hyderabad 
and coal miners' in Kothagudem. She has led struggles to organise the 
domestic workers in Hyderabad. Sandhya has worked tirelessly for victims 
of domestic abuse and dowry harassment.

As President of POW she has participated in anti-imperialist struggles 
such as power hike, privatisation of transportation and special economic 
zones (SEZs). She achieved national and international recognition during 
the anti-arrack struggle in Andhra Pradesh.  She was awarded the 2006 
Rangavalli Memorial Award in recognition of her activism. Sandhya will 
share her experiences on the recent struggles of women and workers in 
Andhra Pradesh, India
