The Liberation Poetry Collective presents Poets Against the Killing Fields,
a new anthology published by Trilingual Press. The book includes poems read
by the ten featured poets at anti-war readings in the Boston area over the past few years.
>From the Forward: A collection of poems and essays by a group of writers diverse in age, class, and ethnic backgrounds, the book's stand against the wars of domination that are now taking place across the world is, at the same time, "an affirmation of life . . . and a cry for peace, a peace with justice and respect for human dignity."
Poets Against the Killing Fields is a testament to cultural activism, reflecting a shared outrage particularly regarding the ongoing wars in the Middle East, in Iraq and in Afghanistan; readers will also find in the poetry a call for beginning a sincere process of reconciliation with justice and solidarity among the peoples.
Early Reviews: "Poets Against the Killing Fields is a declaration of dissent daring to defy and denounce damning despotic dogma. Poets Against the Killing Fields, as voice of different drummers' depth of determination, delivers directions for a true democracy."
- Melvin H. King Professor Emeritus, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
"Manifest in their transformative poetic armament is a stark intentionality to obliterate those all too preeminent thoughts, opinions and behaviors that give excruciating life to death-dealing killing fields. . ."
- Calvin Hicks Professor, New England Conservatory of Music
"The power of poetry - to meld passion, images, music, and ideas - is obvious in this collection, which will engage a reader with the issues in ways that no prose can. The variety of voices and forms is exciting."
Poets Against the Killing Fields is available at the
Democracy Center (45 Mount Auburn Street, Harvard Sq) and at
these Cambridge bookstores:
