The Community Church of Boston Celebrates Innovative Sunday School Program

(Boston, MA) On Sunday, June 3, beginning at 11:00am, those interested in the first ever Justice School, Sunday program for youth and children (ages 7-14), are gathering at the Community Church of Boston in Copley Square. While the Community Church of Boston has served the Greater Boston progressive community for almost 90 years there has been an absence of younger voices. No longer! Beginning September 9, 2007 the Community Church will welcome youth and children, ages 7-14, to participate in the exciting new Justice School, which every Sunday will offer those involved an educational program that empowers them to have faith in themselves as agents of positive change in the world. This is a program that comes with no particular religious creed but instead encourages the youth and children to search for their own truth through lessons that will be fun, interesting, and include art, skits, books, music, and many social justice activist guests.

The Community Church of Boston is honored to have JooYoung Choi as the Director of the Justice School. Ms. Choi has developed the curriculum, outreached to the community, and met extensively with others doing similar work while serving part-time since the end of last year. Of the school Ms. Choi remarks, "Young people are so often considered the leaders of tomorrow, but what we hope to accomplish is empowering these young people to be the needed leaders of today." Ms. Choi continues by listing the goals, " We will encourage young people to become agents of change, support and educate young activists, and create a positive peace and justice community of mixed age young people."

Jason Lydon, the Congregational Director for Community Church, adds his thoughts about the upcoming program, "The event on Sunday, June 3 will be a great opportunity for the young people to get together and get excited about the program starting in September. It will also be a great time for the adults to see the space and consider joining the Sunday service offered at the same time as the Justice School."

While many Boston residents do not attend church, temple, or mosque on a regular basis the Justice School provides an opportunity for young people of all faith traditions, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Athiest, Humanist, etc. to come together and learn about their ability to make change in the world. Families of all kinds are welcome to bring their children to this program. Those seeking further information should visit the Justice School website at www.thejusticeschool.org and contact Ms. Choi or Mr. Lydon at the Community Church of Boston at 617.266.6710.
