The Militant Labor Forum Presents:
Stop the ICE Raids! Legalization For All Immigrants Now!
Saturday, September 22
Reception 5:00 PM, Program 6:00 PM
On September 4 more than 200 people turned out for a march and rally in Chelsea to protest a three-day immigration sweep through
East Boston, Chelsea, and surrounding areas.
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) claims the operation was aimed at suspected members of the Salvadoran gang MS-13
(Mara Salvatrucha) who had outstanding warrants.
The 36 people arrested August 28-30, however, are being held on immigration, not criminal, charges. They are facing deportation to Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, as well as El Salvador.
The sweep involved local cops and ICE agents, as well as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Middlesex Sheriffs Department, and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). Authorities have refused to release the names of those arrested.
Come discuss why working people and all fighters for social justice should oppose these raids and attempts to deport immigrant workers and redouble
the fight to win legalization for all immigrants.
Panelists: William Estrada, Socialist Workers candidate for City Council at large; Elio Hoyos, member negotiating committee, SEIU Local 615; Lucy Pineda, Executive Director, Latinos Unidos en Massachusetts (LUMA)
