In the year 2003, over 70% of America pointed the finger at those who dared voice their opinion against a war in Iraq and deemed them “unpatriotic.” They were looked at in disgust and told that they were not being supportive. “Un-American” people yelled at them; “Terrorist Lovers” added others. “You’re fired” are probably the ones Phil Donahue heard.

On Tuesday April 1, a t about 8:40am, four activists took direct action against the Bank of America in Copley Square, by locking themselves to the front door to protest the banks funding of coal power in the US. The action was done with support from Rising Tide North America, the Rainforest Action Network, and the Energy Action Coalition.

Somerville, MA – Amnesty International Local Group #133 will host its thirteenth annual human rights pilgrimage to New York City called “Get On The Bus” (GOTB) on Friday, April 11, 2008. Amnesty Group 133 recruited more than 1,000 Amnesty International activists, primarily students, from more than 10 states to participate in a series of demonstrations at foreign consulates and United Nations (UN) missions to protest human rights abuses in Myanmar, Darfur (Sudan), Bhopal (India), Sri Lanka and Libya.

TO SNITCH OR NOT TO SNITCH: THE VIEW FROM THE OTHER SIDE

I decided to write this article in response to the endless criticism that is being directed against the “Stop Snitching” movement by critics claiming that Hip Hop is responsible for the “Stop Snitching” movement and the “Us vs. Them” mentality youth of color have towards law enforcement agencies. As a former gang member and street combatant of the drug wars that dominated the streets of Philly in the late 80’s and a member of the generation that came of age listening to Hip Hop I believe I am qualified to offer a frontline perspective from the other side of the issue, especially as one who was sentenced to life without parole as a juvenile because of the testimony of a snitch co-defendant that was close to 10 years older than I.

Vigils across the United States yesterday and today marked the 4,001 death of a U.S. soldier in Iraq. Called by several peace groups and military members against the war, people in almost every single state mourned the loss of life in a war that for most Americans has become unjust and meaningless. “By grieving in public, many families have found comfort,” said Carlos Arredondo, father of Lance Corporal Alexander Scott Arredondo, who died while serving in Najaf at the young age of twenty--the 974th U.S. death of the Bush administration’s war.

GOOD FRIDAY ANTI-WAR VIGILS IN BOSTON

On Good Friday yesterday, two religious vigils against war were held in downtown Boston. The first was the annual Quaker Witness For Peace, held every Good Friday since 1961, by the Beacon Hill Friends Meeting. About 40 peace activists stood in dignified silence on Boston Common from 11:30am-2pm to stand in solemn witness against war. Leaflets were handed out to passersby explaining the vigil's purpose.

On March 19, 2008, about 150 Bostonians gathered at Park Street, in the Common to “celebrate” (to quote John Kerry) a Birthday: March 19th marked the 5-year anniversary of the Iraq War -the one which mission we are supposed to have won over 4 years ago.

BOSTON RESIDENTS SHUT DOWN TREMONT MILITARY RECRUITING STATION

Boston, Mass -- This afternoon, a group of Boston-area residents shut down the Tremont Street Military Recruiting Station for one hour before being arrested by Boston Police. At 3:15 PM, five Boston-area residents re-enacted the scene of a massacre on the sidewalk in front of the Tremont Street Military Recruiting Station, across from Boston Common. Dressed as slain Iraqi civilians, an Iraqi mourner, a slain U.S. soldier and a U.S. mourner, the protesters laid in silence as red dye stained their clothing.
