Mass Action and Lessons from the Vietnam Antiwar Movement

 

Every successful social movement, whether it be to organize trade unions or to bring down the Jim Crow system, is in great part the history of independent and united mass actions.  The mass movement against the Vietnam War generated great successes when hundreds of thousands mobilized to demand "Out Now!" 

 

Today, the independent and united mobilization of the antiwar majority in massive peaceful demonstrations in the streets against the war in Iraq is a critical element in forcing the U.S. government to withdraw all U.S. military forces from that country immediately, close all military bases, and recognize the right of the Iraqi people to determine their own destiny.

 

Learn how the struggles and lessons of organizing the anti-Vietnam War movement are applicable today and what it will take to turn the majority antiwar sentiment of the American people into visible and powerful protest that can end this war and halt any expansion.
