Hey folks,

I'm sure you've heard of the UE workers in Chicago who took over their
factory and forced Bank of America to pay them the wages they were owed. It
is an incredibly inspiring victory for working people in the US and around
the world.

This Thursday the northeast regional president of their union will speak on
a panel in JP about their struggle along with an MAHT housing rights
organizer and a UMass Boston Antiwar Coalition member. We're trying to pull
together activists and organizations from various sectors that are being
affected by the economic crisis to strategize and build solidarity against
the cuts with the UE workers in Chicago as an inspiration for how to fight
back.
Hope to see you there!

Cheers,
Brian

Resisting the Budget Cuts

Defending What's Ours!
Public Meeting
Thursday, December 18th
7:00 PM
42 Seaverns Avenue, Jamaica Plain

Join us as we bring together local activists who are fighting against the
attack on local and state budget cuts. As the economy continues to spiral
out of control and billions go to bailing out banks and corporations and
funding never ending wars and occupations overseas, ordinary people are left
to carry the burden. Workers are tossed aside as factories close, while
banks hoard bail-out tax dollars. Escalating costs and declining enrollment
are the excuses used to close public schools in neighborhoods where
classrooms are already overcrowded and teachers are over worked. Millions
are being evicted from their homes. Funding is being denied to college
institutions and students. Whether it's healthcare, tuition hikes, housing,
education, and public services people in this state are being forced to do
more with less. Come to this community meeting to discuss the impact of
these cutbacks, the cause, and strategies for organizing a fight back.

Scheduled Speakers:

*Peter Knowlton is the Northeast Regional President of the United
Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America (UE).* In Chicago, UE Local
1110 just occupied the Republic window factory for 6 days in what has become

solidarity.
