[act-ma] 12/21 -- Rescheduling of Forum on Greece -- Sunday at 3:00, Open House and Book Sale at 1:00

The Militant Labor Forum has postponed the event scheduled for Friday (12/19) because of the snow predictions.  We will have the forum on the events in Greece and spreading economic crisis in Europe on Sunday (12/21) at 3:00 pm. Also on Sunday, from 1:00 to 3:00 we will have an open house, see both events announced below!

Protests and Strikes in Greece:
Growing Economic Crisis Hits Europe

·        Protests in response to the cop killing of a youth have
swept Greece, and unions called a general strike against austerity measures and
police violence. These take place in the context of the growing economic crisis
throughout Europe where workers are facing layoffs and wage cuts. 

·        In the United Kingdom port workers held a two-day
strike to protest privatization. In Iceland the government
took control of major banks as the country hovered on the brink of bankruptcy.In Sweden workers face a sharp rise in layoffs.

Protestas
y huelgas en Grecia: 
La creciente crisis económica golpea Europa

·         Protestas en respuesta al asesinato de un joven por  la policía han barrido Grecia, y las uniones
llamaron una huelga general contra medidas de austeridad y la violencia policíal. Estas toman lugar en el contexto de la creciente crisis económica en
toda Europa, donde los trabajadores se enfrentan a despidos y recortes
salariales. 

·         En el Reino Unido, los trabajadores portuarios se
celebró una huelga de dos días de para protestar contra la privatización. En Islandia el gobierno tomó el control de los principales bancos a la misma ve que el país
oscilaba al borde de la quiebra. En Suecia los trabajadores se enfrentan
a un fuerte aumento de los despidos.
