Vermont Man Arrives in DC Tomorrow After 485-Mile March for Impeachment!
by Tom Page Tomorrow, Jan. 12, 2008, after 40+ days and nights of trudging through the snow and ice, Vermont educator and activist, John Nirenberg, will complete his 485-mile march for impeachment of Bush and Cheney. He began his heroic one-man march on Washington from Fanueil Hall in Boston on Dec. 1, 2007. See: http://impeachbush.meetup.com/335/messages/boards/view/viewthread?thread=3854184 Since then, John has walked through 8 states and hundreds of towns. His solitary protest march has been covered by the Boston Globe, Village Voice, Talk Nation Radio, and picked up by the Associated Press everywhere. On his blog, MarchInMyName.org, John Nirenberg reports today:
"On Saturday, January 12th, we'll be starting out at 9:00 at the National Arboretum and head to Union Station and then to the 12:30 rally at the National Archives where the Constitution is housed. Hope to see you there. This is it. Be there or be square."
John's courageous personal protest was to undertaken with one purpose in mind. He wanted to send a message to Congress - and particularly to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) - to get them "to put impeachment back on the table". start immediate investigations of the many crimes and abuses of power by the Bush administration.
If you will be in the DC-area this weekend and want to march with John on the final leg of his journey our nation's Capitol, you can contact him through his website, MarchInMyName.org.
If you are not in Washington, please help support John's impeachment protest by calling House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. John Conyers and demanding that they meet with John Nirenberg and listen to his plea (from all of us) to uphold the rule of law and put impeachment "back on table" in Congress! Please help make John's dream a reality. Call Congress today!
Call: Speaker Pelosi
And, after you have made these two calls, please go to Rep. Wexler's (D-FL) and sign his petition to start impeachment hearings immediately. The online petition over the past few weeks has gather over 185,000 signatures... and counting!
