WITNESS FOR JUSTICE
Call for a Moratorium on ICE Raids

WHEN: Wednesday, October 1st, 5pm-6pm
WHERE: Boston City Hall Plaza by the Government Center T Stop.
[The JFK Federal Bldg., located at City Hall Plaza, houses the federal immigration court.]

Raids, Detentions and Deportations:

ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) has stepped up its raids on factories and homes across the country, arresting tens of thousands, breaking up families, and creating a climate of fear and repression among immigrant communities. Since the highly publicized New Bedford raid in which 300 ICE agents arrested 300 workers at the Bianco factory in March 2007, raids have continued in Massachusetts at day labor sites, grocery store parking lots, and immigrant neighborhoods. Most recently, last August ICE officials launched "Operation Community Shield" raiding homes during the middle of the night in Somerville, Lynn, East Boston, and Lowell, arresting about 150 immigrants (documented and undocumented) and detaining them. Many were transferred without notice to several different detention centers. Their families had no idea where they were being held. Some have been deported and many others now face deportation.
