Passing this along

Hi, all

This is to alert everybody that the former president of Bolivia, Gonzalo
Sanchez de Lozada, is speaking at Harvard on Saturday the 7th. De Lozada
is wanted in Bolivia for ordering the massacre of 87 protesters in 2003.
The US government refuses to extradite him and he currently lives in DC.

This Thursday at 7pm at the Lucy Parsons Center there will be a screening
of a documentary about de Lozada and the massacre. It would be great if
people could come to this and stick around for a planning meeting
afterward.

The Bolivian government requested Mr. Sánchez

de Lozada's extradition from the United States in

November, 2008. He presided over several of the

worst massacres in Bolivia's recent history. These

include the “Gas Wars” he initiated and during

which his security forces massacred scores of

people and injured hundreds of others.

Their families demand justice.

To his dreadful record, we must also add the

destructions of the Bolivian economy as he

pushed for the privatization of gas lines, imposed

austerity and opened the economy to corporate

plunder.

He should be returned to Bolivia in order to

answer the charges against him in a fair and

open judicial proceeding.

Harvard's fêting of Sánchez de Lozada

represents a gross indifference to human rights

violations in Bolivia.
