THE AL-ROWWAD CHILDREN’S THEATRE TROUPE HAS A DREAM

Help bring the 12-student troupe from the Aida Refugee Camp Al-Rowwad Center

Al-Rowwad Center tour 

Suggested donation: $25, children 12 and under are free.

Al-Rowwad Center is an Independent Center for artistic, cultural, and
theatre training for children in Aida Camp trying to provide a "safe" and
healthy environment to help children creativity and discharge of stress in
the war conditions they are forced to live in. The center fosters essential
values such as justice, peace and freedom, respect for others,
open-mindedness, and a sense of belonging. Their work builds on the idea
that opposition to oppression must be creative non-violence, a “beautiful
resistance,” as Dr. Abdelfattah Abusrour, the creator of the Theatre and
Ashoka fellow <http://www.ashoka.org/node/3922>  , calls it. Abed hones the
skills of his pupils and gives them a healthy and creative way of
confronting the trauma of living in a refugee camp that is surrounded on
three sides by Israel’s “Separation Wall”. 

Exciting opportunities for the troupe if we can raise the required funds: A
week of classes with local youth at the Underground Railroad Theater in
Cambridge. Public performances by Al-Rowwad at the PCCP and URT. Traveling
to the Bread and Puppet Theatre in Vermont to work with this internationally
renowned company over a weekend. Public performances in Connecticut, NYC and
possibly Cape Cod and Maine.
