END THE SILENCE; STOP THE VIOLENCE
YOUTH SPEAK OUT THROUGH VIDEO SHORTS ON ISSUES FACING BOSTON

By creating independent media, youth are able to challenge biases and weigh
in on their own destiny

Press Pass TV is dedicated to youth produced journalistic content that will
create a clear entry point for civic engagement both for the viewers and for
the creators. We envision a media that transforms passive viewers into
active citizens who have realized the power of their own voice. The content
will be a testimony of the spirit, energy and dedication of the people
showcasing all the good that is being done in their communities.
WHAT:    Press Pass TV celebrates its 5th season with a community screening
of all the never before seen content created since January.  The videos were
created by youth throughout the City of Boston and touch on issues and
solutions surrounding such topics as community violence, educational
disparities, domestic violence and women’s rights amongst others. It
features original work from award winning producers and up and coming media
creators. The event will kick off with a reception and live music, followed
by a screening of the segments, and will end with an opportunity to meet
with the producers
WHEN:     6:00p.m.-8:00p.m. Thursday June 4th, 2009

WHERE:    City Year, 287 Columbus Ave, Boston MA, 02116

WHO:        Youth Producers, Boston Foundation, Hyams Foundation, Larry
Mayes,  nonprofit organizations (e.g. City School, City Year, Teen
Empowerment, Project Right), city officials, and many more.

WHY:     “Press Pass TV is filling an important need by working with the
next generation of community journalists.” said Jim Braude from NECN.
