*Hello All,

The No Layoffs Campaign will hold a rally and march this Thursday, June 25,
at
noon, starting in front of the John Harvard statue at University Hall (see
campus map attached). Please come, and bring your friends! 275 campus
workers,
union and non-union, face the unemployment line. 40 more workers are to have
their hours cut, or be made "seasonal" employees, meaning summers off
without
pay and no eligibility for unemployment benefits. With the University's
endowment still much larger than the GDP of many countries, a lot of us feel
these cuts are completely unnecessary. They will diminish scholarship on
campus
and negatively impact student life. Many families with children will face
economic insecurity, even possible homelessness and destitution. Let's join
together and fight these layoffs!

The No Layoffs Campaign includes activists and union reps in HUCTW (the
Harvard Union of Clerical and Technical Workers), dining hall workers,
custodians, security officers, students, alumni, faculty, and concerned
community members. We demonstrate to bring healthy pressure on Harvard to
preserve jobs and services, rather than cutting them.

In Solidarity,

Geoff Carens, Union Rep, HUCTW/AFSCME local 3650*
