EXPLORE THE 19TH CENTURY FREE BLACK COMMUNITY OF BOSTON

WALK 'N TALK ON BEACON HILL

With HORACE SELDON

On Boston’s north slope, in the 19th century, black and white men and
women claimed the larger promise of the Abolition Movement. No other
area of the nation equaled its contribution to that Abolition
Movement. Within those combined struggles, women asserted leadership
roles previously unexpected, often rejected, and at public risk.

This remarkable community inspires and challenges us to stand
now, in, and sometimes against, our day.
