On November 29th-30th, 2009, the “Mass Mobilization for Climate Justice” will take to the streets of Boston to call for urgent action on the global climate crisis based on equitable, democratic, and science-based solutions.

Actions will be held for two days in solidarity with nationwide protests in cities across the U.S. on Nov. 30th - a week before the beginning of the international UN climate negotiations in Copenhagen, and the 10th Anniversary of the World Trade Organization protest in Seattle.

Schedule of Events:
-November 29th:

(7.00pm) Assemble at 140 Bowdoin St., Boston, MA for a pot-luck dinner and sleep-out with the Leadership Campaign on Boston Common (in front of the State House). The Leadership Campaign is pushing for Massachusetts to repower with 100% clean electricity by 2020.
-November 30th:

(8.30am to 11.30am) Lobby at the State House in support of the Leadership Campaign’s demand to repower Massachusetts with 100% clean electricity by 2020.
(12.00pm to 1.30pm) Rally and speak-out at Boston City Hall Plaza, targeted at the federal and international level and demanding real climate solutions, climate justice, and exposing false solutions including cap and trade.
(1.30pm) March to the offices of John Kerry and Paul Kirk (two co-sponsors of the counterproductive Kerry-Boxer climate bill) at One Bowdoin Square, Boston. Some may participate in nonviolent direct action at the Senate offices. Those interested in NVDA you must sign up here.
The MMCJ seeks to amplify the Leadership Campaign’s state level work, noting that a target of no more than 350 parts-per-million, achieved through drastic conservation measures, and an immediate transformation to truly clean energy sources and sustainable agriculture, must be the basis of any just and effective climate policy. The MMCJ also points out that justice in climate policy is a fundamental requirement of reaching and implementing a successful international agreement. The group wants corporate money out of politics and climate policy, and states “Our climate is not their business!”

More detailed information, including specific policy demands, a list of speakers, endorsements, and information about transportation from Western Mass, is available on the MMCJ website: www.massclimatejustice.org.
