On January 1 Cuba’s working people
celebrated the 51st anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution.
The Cuban Revolution, a socialist revolution, brought to power a workers and
farmers government that has been used to advance the interest of working people
in that country and aid toilers around the world.

New Year’s Day in Cuba in 1959 was marked
by a general strike in Havana that culminated a three-year revolutionary war
against the US-backed regime of Fulgencio Batista. That day, Batista fled Cuba.
On January 8, 1959, Fidel Castro’s Rebel Army rolled victoriously into Havana
to cheering crowds.

Come to a discussion of the challenges and
example of Cuba today in a world marked by the capitalist economic crisis.
