THE COMMUNITY CHURCH OF BOSTON
SUNDAY SPEAKERS FORUM presents...
Sunday, February 14, 2010
11:00am
JASON LYDON
"When Love Becomes Abuse: Domestic Violence, its Roots, and What We Can Do"
Domestic violence/intimate partner abuse occurs in all kinds of
relationships and impacts people across all communities with all identities.
Because we live in a culture that normalizes power-over systems such as
racism, capitalism, patriarchy, classism, heterosexism, ablism, etc. as
individuals we internalize the legitimacy of this structure of
relationships. We will discuss what domestic violence is, how it impacts our
communities, what we can do, and how we must connect ending domestic
violence to all of our struggles for collective liberation.
Jason Lydon is the Congregational Director at the Community Church of
Boston. Jason uses some of his volunteer time with The Network/La Red, a
social justice based, survivor led domestic violence organization that works
with lesbian, bisexual, gay, queer, transgender, polyamorous, and BD/SM
communities.
