*"Evans Carlson and the Chinese Revolution"*

*presentation of research by Al Sargis, Oakland CA, founder of China Study
Group Boston*

*PLACE: Center for Marxist Education, Central Square Cambridge, 550 Mass.
Ave*

*Time: 6:30 pm on Thursday, June 17*

*Here are some notes from Al Sargis, founder of the China Study Group which
has met at the Center for Marxist Education in Cambridge for the last 9-10
years.*

My talk will center on Carlson, but within the context of the impact of the
Chinese revolution (from the 1920s on). I hope to bring out some lesser
known facts about Mao and the Chinese leadership and their influence, some
of the fascinating history of how Carlson's relationship to Roosevelt
both affected U.S. policy towards China and gave room for Carlson to
introduce forms of Red Army organization and ideology in the Marine Raider
Battalion and how Carlson became an "official" hero of China because of his
efforts to promote the Chinese revolutionary cause in the U.S.

I will also be glad to discuss some of the current happenings in China.
