SOLIDARITY RALLY WITH THE INTERNATIONAL GENERAL STRIKE AGAINST
GOVERNMENT AUSTERITY

We will be hosting a planning meeting on Wednesday, Sept 22nd, at
6:00pm, at Encuentro 5 to plan the rally, finalize a press release,
and make banners and signs.
Our campaign continues to inform people about our rally and the
international general strike being called for in Europe September
29th. Such militant action by the working class of Europe is without
precedent in recent history and deserves our attention and
solidarity. Here in Boston, we are calling for a protest outside the
statehouse with a similar message: No to budget cuts! No austerity!
Global capitalism is not working! So far this struggle has been set
in the context of Massachusetts politics. We have a responsibility to
expand that perspective to the international scene.
The Socialist Party and the Industrial Workers of the World are co-
sponsoring this action, but we urgently need the help of other
organizations to make this action in a success.
We are also aware of the fact that a massive demonstration in
Washington DC is being planned to address the economic crisis,
immigration, and, thanks to outside grassroots efforts, the wars and
occupations. This demonstration is being organized by powerful
organizations, yet their program is constricted by the agenda of the
Democratic Party. Consequently, there is no call to strike and no
connection to the international economy. Even core demands for jobs,
housing, and immigration reform, remain tied to the legislative agenda
in Congress. The US left must do more than tag along behind this
action. We need to build a broad faction to advance meaningful
demands and raise international class consciousness. It is likely
that hundreds of thousands of people will be in DC on October 2nd,
just four days after the protests and general strike in Europe. It is
vital that we share this news with our fellow workers. The European
struggle against government austerity and global capitalism is our
struggle too!
Dump the Democrats!
No to Austerity!
Workers of the World Unite!
Please have your organization contact us to endorse the Sept 29th
solidarity actions in Boston and build a September 29th Solidarity
contingent in for October 2nd in Washington DC.
