Fight for legislation to keep our housing affordable!
Demand our elected officials pass legislation to Save Our Homes!

At a recent meeting with Georgetowne Tenants United (GTU), Beacon Communities agreed to extend a rent freeze for 172 moderate income families in Georgetowne I through March 31, 2011.   While this is good news, tenants could still face $300 to $700 per month rent hikes in April, if federal or state legislation is not passed in time.  Another 114 tenants in Georgetowne II face the same fate in March 2012. 
Election Day is next week!    Join your neighbors, the Mass Alliance of HUD Tenants and invited candidates to speak out for legislation to keep Georgetowne affordable!

WHERE:  Cleary Square in Hyde Park at the Corner of River Street and Hyde Park Avenue, in the park next to the Post Office

Parking in lot behind P.O.     
Buses to Cleary Square:   #32 or #50 from Forest Hills Station
>From Georgetowne:   Take the #33 Bus directly to Cleary Square
Stand with the gubernatorial and state senate candidates to say:  we need better laws to save our homes!

Tell Massachusetts elected officials and candidates: Amend the law to Save Our Homes!
Last year, the Massachusetts Legislature passed a law that was supposed to protect buildings that had been affordable for many years but were about to lose their protections when the landlord finished paying the mortgage.  But the law only protects a building when the landlord is selling — and most landlords aren’t selling!  We need better legislation that will protect affordable units WHETHER OR NOT the landlord decides to sell them!
