25th Annual New England Regional Gathering of War Tax Resisters and
"Building an Organized War (Tax) Resistance Movement"
Friday-Sunday, November 5-7, 2010
Cambridge Friends Meeting (5th-6th), 9 Longfellow Park, Cambridge, MA
and Encuentro 5 (7th), 33 Harrison St., Boston
WHY WE COME TOGETHER AND THEME OF THE 25th ANNUAL GATHERING
The New England Regional Gathering of War Tax Resisters provides an
opportunity to gain the information and make the connections
necessary in successfully doing war tax resistance/refusal/
redirection (WTR). The gathering is for both new and experienced war
tax resisters, as well as for those just testing the waters. Together
we will share and expand our community of resistance to rampant US
militarism and endless war.
We need a vibrant war tax resistance/refusal/redirection (WTR)
movement for a strong anti-war movement; we need an active anti-war
movement for a healthy WTR movement. And we need strong movements for
social and economic justice, democratic institutions, reduced
resource consumption and local economies, etc. that connect all the
dots for the well-being of humans and the environment. We need “an
Organized War (Tax) Resistance Movement.” This gathering helps to
build that movement in New England and beyond.
This gathering will offer reasons why WTR is an effective strategy
and the how-to’s and nuts and bolts details of how to begin refusing/
resisting/redirecting federal income and phone taxes.
We will combine our gathering with the semi-annual meeting of the
National War Tax Resistance Coordinating Committee (NWTRCC). NWTRCC
provides information, referral, and support to WTRs, produces
resources, publicizes those who are doing WTR, sponsors or supports
initiatives and campaigns, and participates in international WTR
networks. Some of those most active nationally in the WTR movement
will join us to tell their stories and update us on national and
international WTR campaigns.
