About the Speaker:Dr. Yogesh Jain is a founding member of JSS (Jan Swasthya Sahyog or People's Health Group), a voluntary, non-profit organization founded by a group of health professionals. Over the past 10 years, JSS has developed a low cost and effective health program that provides preventive and curative services in the tribal and rural areas of Bilaspur district of Chhatisgarh state in central India.
About the Talk:In this talk, Dr. Jain will discuss the following issues, drawing upon his own experiences and that of his colleagues while working amongst the poorest of the poor in India,The large-scale prevalence of communicable and non-communicable diseases among the poor and the contribution of poverty to their epidemiology
Non-communicable diseases are consequences of hunger and deprivation, and there is a strong case to understand them under as a consequence of large scale structural violence
The failure of the health policies of the Indian government in bridging these gaps
JSS's philosophy and efforts in combating these issues in Bilaspur, Chhatisgarh through a novel health-care system
Innovations in low-cost medical technology by JSS and their associates
