PRESSURE CAMPAIGN FOR DR. TAREK MEHANNA

Dr. Tarek Mehanna's trial begins Monday, October 24, 2011. It is crucial
that we keep up the pressure on the federal prosector’s office with full
force now. This is your opportunity to take a stand against political
targeting of Muslims and stand for freedom of speech.
The following actions are planned for Mon Oct 17th through Thurs Oct 20th:

INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR PHONE-IN TO THE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE

On Mon Oct 17th and Wed Oct 19th, we are calling on all supporters to call
US Attorney Carmen Ortiz, Assistant US Attorney Jeffrey Auerhahn, and
Assistant US Attorney Aloke Chakravarty to voice your outrage at the federal
harrassment and illegitimate proceedings against Dr. Mehanna.. When calling,
ask to speak with each individual prosecutor (phone numbers for each listed
below) and if told that you cannot speak with him/her, ask to leave a
message and request that it be read back to you. Please request a reply.
Please call Monday and again Wednesday (see talking points below for more
details).

On Mon Oct 17th and Wed Oct 19th, call

the office of US Attorney Carmen Ortiz at 617-748-3159 (phone)
the office of Assistant US Attorney Jeffrey Auerhahn at 617-748-3696 (phone)
the office of Assistant US attorney Aloke Chakravarty at 617-748-3658(phone)

INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR FAX-IN TO PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE

On Tues Oct 18th and Thurs Oct 20th we are calling on all supporters to
fax a letter to the office of each of the prosecutors (fax numbers for each
listed below). We encourage you to write your own letter if possible, but if
you are unable to do so, please see the sample letter and talking points
below. Please cc your letter (by e-mail) to Tarek Mehanna’s Defense
Committee at freetarek at gmail.com and let us know if we can post your letter.

On Tues Oct 18th and Thurs Oct 20th fax a letter to

the office of US Attorney Carmen Ortiz at 617-748- 3694 (fax)
the office of Assistant US Attorney Jeffrey Auerhahn at 617-748-3963 (fax)
the office of Assistant US Attorney Aloke Chakravarty 617-748-3664 (fax)

TALKING POINTS

Briefly state your concerns regarding the illegitimate proceedings against
Dr. Mehanna:

--The FBI threatened Dr. Mehanna with terrorism charges if he refused to
'cooperate', then proceeded to manufacture a case against him when Dr.
Mehanna refused to become an informant;

--Assistant US Attorney Jeffrey Auerhahn, one of the lead prosecutors in Dr.
Mehanna's case, has a well documented history of coercing informants into
giving false testimony (suborning perjury), falsifying evidence, withholding
exculpatory evidence from defense, and lying before the court (perjury). Are
we supposed to believe him and the informants that he has handled now?

--If Dr. Mehanna really planned a mall shooting spree, why hasn't he been
charged with it?

--Recent motions filed by the US Attorney's office are clearly an attempt to
prevent Dr. Mehanna from telling the jury about the real issues in this
case: 1) the FBI's retaliation against him for refusing to be an informant;
and 2) the government's investigation and prosecution of Dr. Mehanna as
punishment for his opposition to US foreign policy;

--Dr. Mehanna is being prosecuted for **speech protected by the first
ammendment**.

SAMPLE LETTER

Dear US Attorney Carmen Ortiz,

I am writing this letter because I am outraged by your office’s prosecution
of Dr. Tarek Mehanna for terrorism related charges.

There is no material evidence to support such charges. The prosecution’s
case rests on the testimony of informants who have been offered special
incentives to testify favorably to the government’s case. At least one of
these informants was “handled” by Assistant US Attorney Jeffrey Auerhahn.
Given Auerhahn’s record of suborning perjury, falsifying evidence,
withholding exculpatory evidence from defense, and perjury, the already
flimsy case against Dr. Mehanna looks even more suspect.

The recent motions filed by the US Attorney's office are clearly an atttempt
to prevent Dr. Mehanna from telling the jury about the real issues in this
case:

--The FBI's retaliation against Dr. Mehanna for refusing to be an informant;
and
--The government's investigation and prosecution of Dr. Mehanna as
punishment for his opposition to US foreign policy.

Your office's motion to prevent the defense from telling the jury about the
prosecution's use of secret evidence is especially dishonest.

It is clear that Dr. Mehanna is being prosecuted for speech protected by the
first ammendment. Despite all your efforts, you can't conceal the truth:
this is a political arrest and an egregious attempt to silence and
intimidate the Muslim community.

Sincerely,
