Once again, welfare recipients are beingtreated as the scapegoats for 
the National Republican Party’s campaign to shred the safety net put in 
place for all of us by the New Deal and the Great Society. The spreading 
of misinformation, regarding President Obama rescinding the work 
requirement in the Welfare Reform of the 90`s is intended to further 
incur resentment of people living in poverty by the unemployed, 
underemployed and the average tax payer while both parties intend to 
enforce even further cuts on the poor.

On Saturday, September 15^th , Human Rights City Boston & Beyond will 
cosponsor a forum on the State of the Safety Net, focusing on the human 
rights stated in the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights:” 
spearheaded by Eleanor Roosevelt and adopted by the United Nations.

The challenges facing Bostonare complex but tackling an ailing system 
requires pooling our resources, ideas and effort with a common 
framework. Saturday's forum is an opportunity for the wider Boston 
community and social/economic justice organizations to build and 
implement a human rights frameworkCommunity groups, legal organizations 
and the people affected by punitive policies,will come together totalk 
and listen to each other and find solutions to achieve Human Rights for 
All.
