The Cambridge Peace Commission is cosponsoring this panel discussion on the histories, struggles, and peace-building efforts of West African nations and peoples. The panel discussion is organized by the West African Peace Initiative of the West African Research Association – a consortium of scholars and institutions with interest in West Africa. WARA promotes peace-building and conflict prevention within the region, and supports research and exchange among scholars and experts in the field. Discussion will focus on current peace-building efforts and the challenges being faced in the region.

The three featured panelists have extensive experience analyzing conflicts in the region: Prof. Abu Bakarr Bah, professor of sociology at Northern Illinois University, founder and editor-in-chief of the “African Conflict and Peace-Building Review”; Prof. Wendy Wilson-Fall, director of Africana Studies at Lafayette College; and Janet Johnson, a Liberian journalist who covered the civil wars in Liberia for more than 20 years and is featured in the documentary film, “Pray the Devil Back to Hell,” which chronicles the contributions of women in bringing an end to the civil wars in Liberia.
