The Boston Police Department and its fusion spying center, the Boston Regional Intelligence Center, have for years been tracking and creating criminal "intelligence reports" on the lawful political activity of peace groups and local leaders. This collection and retention of data regarding people's constitutionally protected speech and beliefs and violates federal privacy regulations and the BRIC's own privacy policies.

FOLLOWING THIS WEEK'S SERVICE

Boston's Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) observance will be held at Cathedral of St. Paul in downtown Boston on Sunday, November 18 at 4pm. All are welcome for a memorial speakout, candlelight vigil and hosted reception as the local transgender community memorializes those lost to violence and/or discrimination. 

Sponsors for this important community event, benefitting the Transgender Emergency Fund and Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program's (BHCHP) Transgender Clinic Fund, include: Eastern  Bank, The Fenway Institute, AIDS Action Committee, Fenway Health, BAGLY, GLAD, Tiffany Club of NE, MTPC, MassEquality, The Crossing and Cathedral of St. Paul, Cambridge Women's Community Action Organization, Boston Healthcare for the Homeless, Join The Impact MA, and Gender Education & Media. 

Event History:  In late 1998, Boston's LGBT community recoiled in horror at the discovery of the latest victim of transphobic violence. Rita Hester, a popular figure in the local rock 'n roll scene, who also happened to be transsexual, had been found brutally stabbed to death in her Brighton apartment. Like so many killings of gay and transgender persons, the victim was subjected to enough brutality to kill her many times over.

A local community of queer activists, rockers, family, friends and allies - over 250 - held a speak-out and candlelight vigil in Rita's honor, forming a human stream of light winding its way through Rita's old Allston stomping grounds.

One year later, a memorial vigil was held in San Francisco; the following year Boston and a few other cities joined in, and this year hundreds of observances will be held in dozens of countries.

Boston's transgender community remembers local victims Chanelle Pickett, Debra Forte, Monique Thomas, Georgette Hart, Denise Pugliesi, Monique Rogers, Lisa Daniels, Rita Hester, and too many more, mostly uncounted and unnoticed by all but their friends and family.

The Community Church is located at 565 Boylston Street in Copley Square, between Dartmouth and Clarendon Streets.

Parking is available on Sunday mornings at the Back Bay Garage (entrances on Clarendon Street or St. James Ave.). We can provide a sticker to affix to your parking receipt, and you will be charged $5.00 for 3 hours of parking.

By public transportation, take the Green line to Copley or take the Orange line to Back Bay station. Community Church is a 2-minute walk from either station.
