/The Black Commentator's/ Larry Pinkney and Phil Restino of the Central
Florida chapter of Veterans For Peace are once again teaming up to do a
one-hour radio program on Sunday night, January 15th at 10:00 PM Eastern
Time. The show is part of the once-a-month international radio marathon
broadcast around the world on http://www.UnitedWeStrike.com
<http://www.unitedwestrike.com/> and we encourage you all to listen in
to not only our show, but to the many others as well.
The name of the new radio program is /"We Cannot Be Silent"/ and it was
derived from the following section of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s
famous /"Beyond Vietnam - A Time To Break Silence" /speech given at the
Riverside Community Church in Harlem, NYC on April 4, 1967 ... one year
to the day before Dr. King was murdered. It's only fitting that our
first broadcast will actually be on the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther
Below is the text from the segment of Dr. King's /"Beyond Vietnam - A
Time To Break Silence"/ speech being referred to:
/"As I have walked among the desperate, rejected, and angry young men, I
have told them that Molotov cocktails and rifles would not solve their
problems. I have tried to offer them my deepest compassion while
maintaining my conviction that social change comes most meaningfully
through nonviolent action. But they ask -- and rightly so -- what about
Vietnam? They ask if our own nation wasn't using massive doses of
violence to solve its problems, to bring about the changes it wanted.
Their questions hit home, and I knew that I could never again raise my
voice against the violence of the oppressed in the ghettos without
having first spoken clearly to the greatest purveyor of violence in the
world today -- my own government. For the sake of those boys, for the
sake of this government, for the sake of the hundreds of thousands
trembling under our violence, _I_ _cannot_ _be_ _silent_."/
The complete text and audio file for Dr. King's /"Beyond Vietnam - A
Time To Break Silence"/ speech is linked at
is an mp3 audio file and the length of the speech is about 56 minutes.
Larry Pinkney, a former section leader in the Black Panther Party, a
former political prisoner interned unjustly for some 10 years, a
committed peace and justice activist for decades, and a current
columnist and editorial board member for the /Black Commentator/
originally joined fellow peace and justice activist Phil Restino of the
Central Florida chapter of Veterans For Peace as guests for a lively
one-hour discussion on the /"Know Your Rights"/ show with Charles Erwin
during the November 12, 2011 UnitedWeStrike.com radio marathon
broadcast. Also taking part in the discussion was Karen Tostado,
founding member of UnitedWeStrike.com.

During our inaugural broadcast of /"We Cannot Be Silent"/ we will spend
a little time up front giving the listeners some of our respective
backgrounds and then we plan to get into what Larry has been covering in
his most recent articles relating to MLK's head-on and "real" activism
in confronting our criminal government's war-making, the reality vs the
myth of Obama and his recent signing of the 2012 NDAA, and how it's much
later than it seems and that the people need to get past their loyalties
to the phoney political parties and unite around saying NO to all the
criminals in Washington, DC and taking our country back.
