Dear Friends,

Allan Savory, the pioneer of a practice that is converting deserts
worldwide back into biologically-rich grasslands, will be speaking at the
Fletcher School at Tufts University on the afternoon of January 25th
(details follow).

Of particular relevance to the climate community, a significant amount of
atmospheric carbon is captured in the form of soil organic matter through
this innovative land management process. According to the UN Convention to
Combat Desertification, the potential for land to hold carbon and act as a
sink for greenhouse gases is "unparalleled."

I hope you will be able to attend this exciting and hopeful presentation,
and encourage you to share this notice with others who may find it of
interest.

Best regards,
Karl

**[image: SS-2011-AllanSavory]**While governments posture and dither, a
pragmatic practitioner and intellectual entrepreneur, Allan
Savory,<http://www.savoryinstitute.com/about-us/allan-savory/>has been
developing and demonstrating a powerful technique that can reduce
carbon dioxide in the atmosphere immediately while reversing
desertification and providing livelihoods and food for millions of people.
His applied research based in Zimbabwe on the restoration of grasslands
has now been replicated on millions of acres worldwide. The
application of his methods has the potential to significantly reduce
atmospheric carbon through an increase in plant growth and soil formation.
This process begins immediately and involves no new technologies, only a
shift to the Holistic Management practices for livestock that he has
pioneered. Major organizations and institutions are now recognizing his
work, but climate scientists and governments have yet to incorporate it
into their analyses and policy prescriptions.****
