This talk will cover both the legal and rehabilitation work of two
human rights activists in Gujarat, India after the 2002 genocide of
Muslims.

Prasad Chacko is the director of Behavioral Science Center (BSC) in
Gujarat through which he has been involved with various aspects of the
empowerment of marginalized communities, particularly the Dalits,
Adivasis and Muslims. Chacko was instrumental in shaping the Citizen’s
Initiative which provided humanitarian relief and psycho-social care
to the traumatized victims of the 2002 Gujarat riots. He also played a
significant role in the establishment of the legal cell in BSC in
order to assist the victims and witnesses of the genocide in their
effort to secure legal justice.

Meera Rafi is a human rights activist and director of Center for
Development (CfD) through which she has been involved with the Muslim
and Dalit communities in Gujarat, many of whom are displaced, in
working towards communal harmony and peaceful co-existence with the
other communities. She works with women affected by domestic violence
