*Malalai Joya* is an Afghan activist [1] and writer [2]. She was  
dismissed from Parliament for denouncing warlords [3] and war criminals  
[4]. Because of her courageous action, she has received death threats and  
multiple assassination attempts on her life. She has traveled the world  
speaking out against the warlords, the Taliban, the corrupt U.S.-backed  
Karzai administration, and the ongoing U.S./NATO occupation and has received  
international support for her work for women and children in her country.   
She calls for withdrawal of all troops from Afghanistan. Joya said, /“as  
long as we have foreign military bases in our country, we have no  
independence. And when we have no independence, we have nothing, and all talk  
of democracy, human rights and women’s rights is a joke.”  /Joya has  
written a memoir, /A Woman Among Warlords [5]: The Extraordinary Story of an  
Afghan Who Dared to Raise Her Voice, /which will be available for signing at  
her talks.

*Noam Chomsky** *is a Professor of Linguistics at MIT and a world-renowned  
commentator and activist on contemporary issues and international affairs and  
a critic of U.S. foreign policy.  In a 2005 poll, he was voted the  
“world’s top public intellectual”. Among his more recent books  
are: /The Essential Chomsky; Hopes and Prospects; Gaza in Crisis; //How the  
World Works/; /9-11: Was There an Alternative; Making the Future:  
Occupations, Interventions, Empire, and Resistance; Peace with Justice./

*There will a reception from 5:00 -7:00 pm* with Ms. Joya to raise money for  
organizations and charities benefiting Afghan women and children before the  
evening program.  There will be music and refreshments will be  
served. Reception: Contribution requested: $12.
