Thursday, October 10, 7PM
East Cambridge
call 617-492-2340 to RSVP and for address- it's my home, so I want to talk
to participants before I give my address
I want to have a monthly group to discuss the "classic" anarchist thinkers-
Godwin, Proudhon, Kropotkin, Bakunin, Stirner, Goodman, Reclus, Malatesta.
The goal is to gain a general, very basic understanding of these thinker
and their ideas.
Each session will focus on one thinker. Required reading- a summary from
Wikipedia or the book Demanding the Impossible: A History of Anarchism by
Peter Marshall from PM press. Optional longer reading- a article or book
written by the thinker.
Discussion Questions: 1) how would you summarize this thinker's thoughts?
2)What ideas do you like and why? 3)What ideas are problematic?
The group is for people who are open to the merits of Anarchism.
Topic for first meeting, October 10:
William Godwin
required short reading Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
William_Godwin
and/or chapter 15 of Demanding the Impossible
optional longer reading: An Enquiry Concerning Political Justice
online: http://socserv.mcmaster.ca/econ/ugcm/3ll3/godwin/pj.html
Tentative Dates for future meetings: November 7 and December 5.
