*A Rabbinic View of Human Rights in Israel/Palestine*
Thursday, January 17th
4-6 PM
The Armory Cafe, 91 Highland Avenue, Somerville, MA* *

An opportunity not to be missed, Rabbi Ascherman will speak about Rabbis
for Human Rights' rabbinic and hopeful message of on-the-ground activism
for an Israel that lives up to the highest Jewish values. Rabbis for Human
Rights have worked in Israel to create a different image of what it means
to be a religious Jew--accompanying Palestinian farmers as they graze their
sheep to defend against Settler attack, and speaking out against
increasingly Hawkish Israeli government.

Speaking *Thursday afternoon from 4 pm to 6 pm at Arts **at the Armory Cafe
in Somerville, MA*, Rabbi Ascherman will speak about the work that Rabbis
for Human Rights does in Israel, and the ways we can support human rights
in Israel from a Jewish perspective.

The event is sponsored by Jewish Voice for Peace Boston, a chapter of
Jewish Voice for Peace, the largest US-based grassroots organization
dedicated to promoting full equality, democracy, and self-determination for
both Israelis and Palestinians.

Rabbis for Human Rights is the only rabbinic voice of conscience in Israel,
defending human rights of marginalized communities within Israel and the
Palestinian Territories. The organization was founded in 1988, and today
has over 100 members-all Israelis and all ordained Orthodox, Reform,
Conservative, Reconstructionist, and Renewal rabbis as well as some
rabbinical students. Rabbis for Human Rights is dedicated to the ideals,
principles and values on which the State of Israel was founded.
