Chris Mackin Workplace Democracy Event @ the Harvard Law Forum
To: <boston-dsa at googlegroups.com>

Hi Comrades!
DSA member at Harvard Law here, looking to spread news about an important Workplace Democracy event happening on campus--and open to the public! Next Friday, October 12, Chris Mackin will be on campus to speak about his proposal for broadening workplace democracy. I was hoping you might share the below event description with the DSA community. Workplace democracy has got to be an important part of our vision for the future, and a packed house at this event would be an important message to the Harvard community of its importance. The FB event link is here: https://www.facebook.com/events/331379064285263/ please spread around! October 12 — Building Workplace Democracy: Chris Mackin
Noon,
Harvard Law School, WCC 1010, 1585 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge

Chris Mackin's talk will focus around a new legislative proposal to create a new form of federal loan insurance, like Federal Home Loan Insurance, to be used by workers to buy the businesses they work in, through employee stock ownership plans or ESOPs. When done well, ESOPs can be used to create democratically governed workplaces with employees controlling the profits. This bill has potential to completely redefine American society, just as the FHA did after the Great Depression—except this redefinition would be centered around democratic worker ownership of businesses. Chris Mackin has been at the forefront of worker owned companies for around 30 years, and runs a firm focused on just that, called Ownership Associates.
