Film: Cooked Survival by Zip Code

In her signature serious-yet-quirky connect-the-dots style, Peabody
award-winning filmmaker Judith Hefland takes audiences from the deadly
1995 Chicago heat disaster deep into one of our nation’s biggest growth
industries – Disaster Preparedness. Along the ways she forges
inextricable links between extreme weather, extreme disparity and the
politics of ‘disaster’, daring to ask: what is zip code was just a
routing number, and not a life-or-death sentence?
This screening is part of the 2019-2020 Dismantling White Supremacy Film
Series sponsored by the Social Justice Action Committee of First Church
in Jamaica Plain Unitarian Universalist and several allies. Proceeds
will benefit the film's producers, the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute,
and the Mass Redistribution Fund. Tickets must be secured in advance
using the link on this page. Those registering will be sent an email
with the Zoom link in advance of the screening. A panel discussion will
follow the screening. We encourage generous donations to support
under-resourced folks in the greater Boston area, however no one will be
turned away based upon ability to pay.
