Dear friends and colleagues,

Bill language which would establish a 23-seat journalism commission to
look into the collapse of local news in the Commonwealth with an eye to
action on its findings by state government has a chance to pass tomorrow
(Mon., July 27) as Amendment #40 to the Economic Development Bill H. 4879.

Please call your state rep and ask him/her to cosponsor Amendment #40 to
H. 4879 by tomorrow morning! The journalism commission bill
language—which was heavily modified thanks to input by many journalists,
journalism educators, journalism students, journalism students, media
unions, unionized media staffers, and media reform activists receiving
this email—now includes eight seats for local journalists representing
disenfranchised communities plus three seats for journalism
organizations. The commission, if created, will hold public hearings on
the crisis in local news media in every county in the state.

Act now to help save local news in Massachusetts! And please share this
email widely!
