*Wednesday, October 5th at 7 PM:*

Russia’s brutal February 2022 invasion of Ukraine has attracted
widespread condemnation across the West. Government and media circles
present the conflict as a simple dichotomy between an evil empire and an
innocent victim. In this concise, accessible and highly informative
primer, Medea Benjamin and Nicolas Davies insist the picture is more
complicated.

Join *Community Church of Boston* and *Mass Peace Action* for an evening
with *Medea Benjamin* as she discusses her new book, "War In Ukraine
Making Sense of a Senseless Conflict" on *October 5th *at*7 PM*. Also
joining Medea is Rev. *Karlene Griffiths Sekou.*

*Medea Benjamin* is an American political activist, best known for being
a co-founder of the women-led peace group CODEPINK and the co-founder of
the human rights group Global Exchange. Medea is the author of several
books, and she received CCB's Sacco and Vanzetti Award for Social
Justice in 2019.

Rev. *Karlene Griffiths Sekou* is an international public health
professional, speaker, preacher, culture worker, and community
organizer. For over twenty-years, she has situated her work within the
realms of international human rights and de-colonial and anti-colonial
cultural regeneration.

*“Free Leonard Peltier Now”
with Jean Roche & Carol Gokee*

Leonard Peltier, a visionary hero among Native Peoples of North America,
a peaceful activist and member of the American Indian Movement, has
spent 47 years in prison. We call on President Biden and AG Garland to
immediately release this elderly man, this good man, this hero to Native
Peoples. Our speaker, Jean Roche, as a child survived, and was saved by
Leonard during the shootout that became called The Incident at Oglala,
the event that led to Leonard’s imprisonment. Jean is traveling the
world on behalf of freedom for Leonard. She joins us from Greece.

Leonard received CCB’s Sacco and Vanzetti Award in 1992. We will play a
digitized excerpt of his remarks made that day from prison by phone.

*Music by Magpie*

*“Abolishing Prisons and Giving Life
to Something New”
with Rev. Jason Lydon*

The United States is the largest incarcerator in the world. This system
is rooted in white supremacy and capitalism. The movement to abolish
prisons is inspired by visionary leaders who know we can build something
anew out of the rubble of the old. Let us spend our time reflecting on
the possibilities offered by abolition.

*/• Rev. Jason Lydon/* is a Unitarian Universalist minister serving the
Second Unitarian Church of Chicago. Jason was ordained to the ministry
in 2010 by the Community Church of Boston after serving five years as
the Congregational Director. Jason has spent the last two decades
involved in abolitionist organizing, including founding Black and Pink,
a nationally networked grassroots organization working to abolish
prisons while meeting the immediate needs of LGBTQ/HIV+ people affected
by the criminal legal system.

/Prisons cannot be reformed, any more than slavery can be reformed. They
have to be abolished./ –Howard Zinn

*Music by Dean Stevens*

*Sunday, October 30th at 11 AM:*

*“God, John F. Kennedy, and Russia”*

*with Amar Ahmad*

Reflections from a spiritual journey of working with antiwar,
antinuclear activists, learning about John F. Kennedy, why he died and
why it matters, from moral leaders like Ray McGovern, and using this
history to better understand US imperialism including the current US
proxy war on Russia.

*• Amar Ahmad *is a young Muslim who works with Community Church of
Boston and Mass Peace Action. Amar has interviewed esteemed writers and
dissidents such as Margaret Kimberley, Daniel Ellsberg and more. Earlier
this year, Amar started a book reading group that read "War with
Russia?" by Stephen
Cohen, to better understand the new Cold War.

*Music by Michael Jackson*

*Sunday, November 6th at 11 AM:*

*“The Poets' Theatre Reads
T. S. Eliot's THE WASTE LAND”
with Poets' Theatre*

2022 is the centenary year for the publication of T. S. Eliot's
ground-breaking poem THE WASTE LAND, a modernist collage that captures
the spiritual void and cultural apathy in England after the unimaginable
slaughter of World War I. The poem is a collection of voices, and The
Poets' Theatre, whose mission is to bridge the gap between the worlds of
Poetry and Theatre, will pay homage to the crazy-quilt that makes up the
poem. Our cast includes two accomplished poets and two of Boston's best
actors.

*• David Gullette***is Literary Director of the Poets' Theatre, with
which he has been associated on and off for 60 years. Previous programs
he has arranged at CCB include THE BOSTON ABOLITIONISTS, OTHER VOICES IN
THE ROOM (spoken word poets from Roxbury and Dorchester) and A
MURMURATION OF POETS*/./*

*Sunday, November 13th at 11 AM:*

*“Fighting Fascism:
What's Next in Electoral Battle”
with Mark Solomon*

The 2022 midterm elections will be a milestone in the fight for
democracy. But that fight is far from over. All progressives must now
build a winning strategy to establish and consolidate a permanent
progressive majority. (Note: that is subject to change as circumstances
change.)

*• Mark Solomon* is Professor Emeritus of History at Simmons University.
Holding degrees from Wayne State University, the University of Michigan
and Harvard University, Prof. Solomon has written five books, including
"The Cry Was Unity: Communists and African Americans, 1917-1936." He is
past national co-chair of the US Peace Council and also co-chaired The
Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism.

*Music by Rod MacDonald*
Rod is an American singer-songwriter, novelist, and educator.

*Sunday, November 20th at 11 AM:*

*“Trans Day of Remembrance”
with TBA*

The Transgender Day of Remembrance, is a day to memorialize those who
have been murdered as a result of transphobia. The day was founded
twenty-three years ago in 1999 to bring attention to the unsolved murder
of transgender woman Rita Hester in Allston, MA and to the continued
violence endured by transgender people. Join us as we discuss ways in
which we can ensure that all people can live safely, authentically, and
free from discrimination.

*"Bob D'Attilio Day”*

/Sacco and Vanzetti International Scholar/

On the second anniversary of his passing, we commemorate and celebrate
the life of Robert D’Attilio. We open our house for Bob's diverse wealth
of friends, family and colleagues, to see the amazing legacy of research
materials, Sacco and Vanzetti archival documents, correspondence, and
the treasure trove of books he left for us to enjoy, including every
topic under the sun. Because of Covid, and the circumstances around his
passing, many of Bob's friends did not get a chance to really gather and
grieve or celebrate his remarkable life. We will do just that on Nov.
27, and reflect on his enormous contribution to the legacy of Sacco and
Vanzetti in the City of Boston.
