Local 26, UNITE/HERE will be having a rally today at 4pm . The hotel
industry is owned by some of the biggest corporations in the world and
are trying to crush our union. Hotel management has used tactics at
negotiations that is forcing a strike. Management has taken agreed
upon proposals off the table and has put on the table "mandatory
retirement after 7 years of work. Historicaly these are tactics of an
employer wanting to force a union to strike. Management is still
refusing to negotiate around two crucial union demands: retirement and
the hiring of afro-american workers. <br>
<br>
If the union wins it will be a big boost to workers though out
Massachusetts. If the union loses it will be devastating for our
international, unions throughout the country and particularly the
immigrant community.<br>

UNITE HERE Local 26, the Hotel Workers Union, has been fighting for a
new contract since November 2006. Workers have been fighting for a
living wage, health care, an end to discrimination against
African-American workers, and dignity for all in the workplace.
Although the workers have made some progress in negotiations, the
contracts that cover most of the unionized hotels in Boston have
expired. The hotels had a chance to do the right thing and settle
months ago but they chose not to. On March 14th the union voted for a
strike/boycott deadline of April 2007 for the 4 Boston Starwood hotels:
