daring portrait of the Palestinian uprising. <br>

style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">means <i>uprising</i>.
The first Intifada (starting in
1987) is understood to be a spontaneous phenomenon (consisting mostly
of rock
throwing), in protest of Israel's brutal repression in the occupied
territories, which included extra-judicial killings, mass detentions,
house demolitions,
deportations, etc. A second Intifada started when Ariel Sharon - with
Likud
party members and hundreds of Israeli riot police - visited the Temple
Mount in
the Old City of Jerusalem. The compound is the third holiest site in
Islam for
the majority of Muslims.<br>
