On
Saturday October 6th, we’ll rally in Maverick Square, East Boston and then
deliver our demands to the Salvadoran Consulate. The following week a
delegation of concerned citizens and community organizations will meet
with the Consul General for the Salvadoran government’s response.

This action is sponsored by: CISPES (Committee in Solidarity with the
People of El Salvador), Cambridge-El Salvador Sister Cities, and Centro
Presente.

For more information, or to get involved in the planning, contact: Boston
CISPES 617.576.1709 boscispes@speakeasy.net

BACKGROUND
On July 2nd, 14 people were arrested BEFORE and AFTER a peaceful protest
against water privatization in Suchitoto, El Salvador. Those arrested
include the leadership of the historic Salvadoran rural development
organization CRIPDES. Detainees have reported violent police abuse after
the arrests, including being flown over a lake by police and told they
were going to be dropped in.

In a secret tribunal hearing on Saturday July 7, 13 of the 14 arrestees
were charged with terrorism. These 13 were placed under "preventative
prison” as the prosecution continued to build their terrorism case. A few
weeks later the 13 prisoners were released, but these charges of terrorism
remain.

For more information on the Suchitoto terrorism charges, check out:

http://upsidedownworld.org/main/content/view/812/1/
http://www.cispes.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=232&Itemid=28

Boo!
