<P>The Olympics are now ended. Have human rights improved as promised by the Chinese leaders? Faced with ever growing, cascading crises–earth quake, economic embargo by the West, Tibetan uprising, pollution--how has current leadership responded? Is there viable democratic opposition in China today that could advance its agenda? And, what is the role of the international community?</P>

<P>Jianli Yang, </B>who earned a PhD from both Harvard and UC Berkeley, is a survivor of the Tiananmen Square massacre and a five-year prison term in China when he returned in 2002 as an advocate after graduating from Harvard. This spring, he walked from Boston to Washington D.C. to increase public awareness of China’s human rights abuses. In July, he was violently turned away and nearly arrested when he attempted to carry his message to the Olympics Games. </P><B>
