began to carry out a revolutionary democratic program, promoting the
organization of working people in town and country to advance their class interests
against the power and prerogatives of the large landowners and capitalists. </span></p>

1983, a faction led by Deputy Prime Minister Bernard Coard overthrew the
workers' and farmers' government and murdered Bishop and other New Jewel
leaders, opening the door for an invasion by the United States.</span></p>

resistance by working people is growing. <span class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1236740608_4"><span class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1236782618_4">General strikes</span></span> in <span class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1236740608_5"><span class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1236782618_5">Guadeloupe</span></span> and
<span class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1236740608_6"><span class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1236782618_6">Martinique</span></span> recently won gains for workers against the bosses’ attacks.<span style=""> </span>Today the legacy of Bishop’s revolutionary
measures are worth studying as workers in the Caribbean and elsewhere face the
consequences of the capitalist crisis. </span></p>

isla caribeña de Granada derrocó la dictadura de Eric Gairy. Encabezada por el
Movimiento Nueva Joya y Maurice Bishop, <span class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1236740608_12"><span class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1236782618_9">el Nuevo gobierno</span></span> de trabajadores y
agricultores comenzó a llevar a cabo un programa democrático revolucionario, la
promoción de la organización de los trabajadores en la ciudad y <span class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1236740608_13"><span class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1236782618_10">en el campo</span></span>
para promover sus intereses de clase contra el poder y las prerrogativas de los
grandes terratenientes y capitalistas. </span></p>
<p class="MsoBodyText" style="margin-bottom: 6pt;"><span style="" lang="ES-MX">En octubre de 1983, una facción liderada por el
Viceprimer Ministro <span style="border-bottom: 1px dashed rgb(0, 102, 204); cursor: pointer;" class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1236740608_14"><span style="border-bottom: 1px dashed rgb(0, 102, 204); cursor: pointer;" class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1236782618_11">Bernard Coard</span></span> derrocó al gobierno de trabajadores y
agricultores y asasinaron Bishop y otros líderes de Nueva Joya, abriendo la
puerta a una invasión por los Estados Unidos. </span></p>
<p class="MsoBodyText" style="margin-bottom: 6pt;"><span style="" lang="ES-MX">Como la crisis económica mundial se profundiza
hoy, <span style="border-bottom: 1px dashed rgb(0, 102, 204); cursor: pointer;" class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1236740608_15"><span style="border-bottom: 1px dashed rgb(0, 102, 204); cursor: pointer;" class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1236782618_12">la resistencia</span></span> de los trabajadores va en aumento. Las huelgas generales en
Guadalupe y Martinica recientemente ganó beneficios para los trabajadores
contra los ataques de los patrones. Hoy en día el legado de Bishop y de las
