Try as one might to dismiss him, Marx keeps coming back. His ideas are alive because of his indictment of capitalism. We have seen in recent decades a growing gap between rich and poor the world over. The quest for greed has plunged the entire world into the worst economic crisis possibly since the Great Depression of the 1930's.

Capitalism is a class society that creates great wealth for the few, the rich capitalists, at the expense of the many, the working class. It is a society prone to systemic economic crises and wars that create misery for millions. Marx’s scathing criticism of the capitalist system continues to be confirmed on a daily basis.

Join us for a discussion of Marx’s critique of capitalism, what he argued about socialism, and how his ideas can be used to build a movement for a better, more just world.. In his words, “Philosophers have merely interpreted the world. The point,
however, is to change it.”

D’Amato is the associate editor of International Socialist Review. His writing has appeared in CounterPunch, Socialist Worker and Selves and Others.
