Encuentro 5 is THE place to be on Saturday. There are two important all day events happening, the Committee In Solidarity with the People of El Salvador (CISPES) 30th anniversary event and the Forming Alternative Realities Today (FART) organizing summit. Following these meetings will be a party in honor of CISPES anniversary, with FREE FOOD, LIVE MUSIC, & CHEAP DRINKS starting at 7:00pm. <br><br>All info is below. year marks THREE DECADES of struggle and solidarity with El Salvador’s
popular uprising and the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front
(FMLN)!<br><br>Since 1980 the Committee in Solidarity with the People
of El Salvador has fought unjust US military and political intervention
alongside the successful and inspirational Salvadoran movement for

Forming Autonomous Realities Today organizing summit will address the
risks and realities of living in a culture that remains addicted to
fossil fuels, even after decades of protests and strong movements
towards sustainability.<br><br>Corporations in the United States are
still using irresponsible, destructive techniques to extract coal and
natural gas from the Eastern states as cheaply as they can, with little
regard for the damage these activities do to the water supply, land,
air, and all living things. In West Virginia, Kentucky and other
places, "radical" strip mining for coal is destroying whole mountains
and attacking the integrity of the Southern deciduous forests. In
Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York, horizontal drilling and
"hydrofracking" techniques for enhancing natural gas production are
polluting aquifers and the land. In addition to damaging the integrity
of these bioregions, these destructive industrial activities threaten
countless farms and communities across the Appalachian region.<br><br><span>For
the past few years, the environmental movement in the Eastern United
States has taught and employed tactics such as
anti-oppression/collective</span><wbr><span class="word_break"></span>
liberation, popular education, direct action and civil disobedience,
disaster preparedness, etc. While all of these things have accomplished
goals and built a stronger movement, we are working to create new
spaces for networking, spreading knowledge and supporting our various
communities.<br><br>So what will we do? This summit will address how we
can move forward towards solutions with the knowledge that these dirty
practices are still happening in the Eastern states. We will also work
together to make the connections between the fossil fuel industries and
extraction processes, specifically coal and natural gas.<br><br>We
have decided to dedicate this weekend to Judy Bonds, a dedicated
Appalachian coalfield organizer who gave everything she had to fight
Mountaintop Removal and to preserve the culture of Appalachia. She
recently passed away, and her memorial service is the same weekend as
F(A)RT. We wish to use this event to show respect to her work and to
carry on her fiery energy within ourselves. Any profit we make from
donations will be sent to West Virginia to help with the cost of her

F(A)RT is being put together by a collection of local organizers that
turned down "big green[washed]" NGO sponsorship, so we are running this
whole thing on a little/low budget. We ask attendees donate whatever
they can ($3-?), if possible. But of course, this is information
everyone needs and has to share, so if you can't pay, you will not be
turned away! Please keep in mind all profits we receive after costs are
payed off will go to Judy Bond's memorial service costs.<br><br>Bring/donate if you can:<br>- *Your own mess kit / dishes for meals and mugs for coffee / tea.*<br>- Food will be done on a very low budget, so if you have any extra food you can donate, please let us know!<br>-

This weekend is based off of the idea of three "R's" we came up with.
The order of workshops and skillshares loosely follows this idea, and
leads us to end the weekend with the energy and skills to manifest our
ideas for a new world into reality. The three R's are Reality,
Resistance, Rebuild.<br><br>We will send out a more detailed agenda
(and note, this one is subject to change) soon, like, Thursday
night/Friday morning. Can't wait to see all your shining, subversive

the new skills and strengthened relationships we will develop, we hope
that this summit will be another point of transition in the organizing
against gas and coal in Boston. The city has successfully taken action
against the fossil fuel industry in the past and we must revive the
movement and work together in new ways. As the US Government and the
