<div dir="ltr"><font class="Apple-style-span" face="'Segoe UI', Tahoma, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 17px;"><br></span></font><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(42, 42, 42); font-family: 'Segoe UI', Tahoma, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 17px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); "><div style="line-height: 17px; ">Rosa Elena Bello is my friend and a colleague from San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua who has worked with the Newton-San Juan del Sur Sister City Project since the mid 1990s. </div><div style="line-height: 17px; ">In San Juan del Sur she runs the Free High School for Adults, the clinic (Community Medical Services), the battered women's shelter now housing abused girls (Solidarity House), the regional Cabinet of Citizen Power, a nutrition program for children under five, and many other services for the populace in the southwest corner of Nicaragua. We have worked together since the mid 1990s.</div><div style="line-height: 17px; "> </div><div style="line-height: 17px; ">This year she was chosen the fifth Distinguished Visiting Practitioner of the International Center of Ethics, Justic and Public Life at Brandeis. She has done more than anyone in that region of Nicaragua to improve the lives of women, children, and men, supporting improvements in the fields of education, health care, gender equality, and human rights. Her twenty years of work have had transformative effects on the well-being of the population in the region. You can get a parking sticker when you enter the campus as well as directions, which are simple. The lecture will be in Spanish; and translated into English. Spanish-speaking workers at Brandeis are invited to this and other of her events.
